| A quite gorgeous **** city centre hotel in
Avignon, Provence
Since the 13th century this ancient cardinal’s palace has been an important building in Avignon. Saved in 1987
from old age and neglect, it was refurbished in the style
of an 18th century provencal home and opened in 1990
as a privately owned luxury hotel. With just 19 bedrooms,
the personal touch, the professional yet friendly atmosphere and the individual attention are paramount. Dinner is a glorious feast overseen by a Michelin starred chef.
What can you do besides relax and eat? Explore the medieval walled city of Avignon and its outdoor cafes. Visit the magnificent Palais des Papes. Stock up on calissons d’Aix and berlingots, locally made sweets, and preserved melon slices, particular to Avignon. Treat yourself to a bowl of bouillabaisse, the provencal fish soup, for lunch one day. Wander through the Places des Carmes market, with bric-a-brac on Sunday and flowers on Saturday.
Availability: Any three nights mid-march to November
